This is the same Sauk Trail which was only a block from our old house in Park Forest. Almost like a dirty penny, shows up everywhere.

But with the tides on the Bay of Fundy, some fossils are falling to beach every day. Take a walk down to the beach in the evening to watch the world renowned tides roll in. It had already come in over one hundred yards.

    The Fortress Of Louisbourg. The book said to spend an entire day there. As the crow flies, the Fortress is only twenty miles across the Island from Baddeck. The island, however is bisected, quartered and diced by Bras d’Or Sea, an inland salt water sea with many bays extending from it. An hour later we arrived at the visitor’s center for the Fortress. From there we boarded a shuttle bus for the two plus kilometer ride to the fortress itself, which sits on a spit of land jutting into the Atlantic Ocean. Be warned to bring something warm with you, because the temperature at the Fortress is about ten to fifteen degrees cooler than at the visitor center.

    Go to the town of Baddeck, pronounced ba-DECK. It is the home of Alexander Graham Bell, the inventor of the telephone. Mr. Bell was a teacher of the deaf, like his father who had developed a system of helping the deaf to speak. Because of his patents, he became quite wealthy and lived on an island across from Baddeck on the Bras d’Or Sea. There, with the help of his wife, family, and other inventive minds, he explored the theory of flight, making kites out of tetrahedrons, four sided shaped triangular forms.

The grave site was found by a group of students who thought that the rock pattern was quite unusual. Under the rock they found an enshrouded child of about twelve, face-down, painted in red with a flat rock on the lower back. Artifacts associated with the burial include a walrus tusk, a number of stone and bone projectile points, a bird bone whistle, paint grinding tools, an antler pendant, a toggling harpoon and a decorated ivory eagle.
